Area of a rectangle formula

A = L x W

A = (x + 4)(x - 2)

A = x² + 4x - 2x - 8

the formula for the area of a rectangle is bh or lw depending on the how the problem is presented.

l = x+ 4
w = x - 2
so you get the product of these two measurements

(x + 4)(x - 2)
foil these two factors and you get
x^2 + 2x - 8
that is the trinomial that represents the area of the rectangle

A = (l)(w)

= (x+4)(x-2)

= x² + 2x -8
