Not far usually. But I've only dated girls and so it's not very hard for me to hold myself back;p
Now with a *guy*, I dunno. I'm so freakin anxious to get with a guy and try out the sex stuff that I'd probably go pretty far. Hell, I don't know that I'd let him out of the car.

I have always maintained a policy of no kissing on the first date.
I do this to keep the girl comfortable in case she's not really feeling it, and I tell her directly.
This opens the door a little better on the second date, because I pretty much know that if she wants a second date, she wants a kiss. Yeah, sometimes you have to resist and miss out on that passionate beginning, but, I feel like it's better to show restraint.
Of course, there have been a couple occasions where I was unable to keep to my rule, but, I try not to go very far on the first date.

It depends on what happend on the date, and who I'm with. bla bla bla
In my younger years, I would try to hold off but due to hormones and alcohol, and the right moment and person and the right opportunity, I would take it! I like sex, and if it feels good, go with it! Now that I am older and wiser, I enjoy the tension building up and the teasing, and the curiosity part of it all. Describe to me what your wearing underthere, don't show me! I don't drink on dates anymore, I found out that I get hot and frisky when I do, which can ruin a good thing!

If I'm looking for casual sex, I'll of course, go all the way. If I'm dating, just a innocent kiss.
I don't do casual sex, so if it's someone I'm dating with intention of it becoming something more, a kiss is all we're both getting! Mostly because there's no need to rush something sweet, and sex should be a big, important deal in a relationship, something you prime and prepare for.
Hope that helps.

First date is a "get to know you" meeting. You only go all the way if it is not a date and is a one night stand

In times past, as far as they would let me - "life is for living now" was my motto.
These days, though, I'm much more reserved and I appreciate the tension of a slow build to something that, ultimately, has more meaning.

This sounds hedonistic (I guess because it is), but I'd go as far as I could. Who knows if you'll ever have a second chance?! Life is too short and uncertain to play dating games. My motto is: Life is uncertain, eat dessert first.

It depneds what led up to the first date. In general, when I was single I was in my early 20's, and I was so horney all the time that I totally would go all the way. But it wasn't always smart.
