Always check the seller's feedback to see what kind of experience other buyers had.
Paypal is the most secure way to pay for purchases as it's owned by eBay.

It is safe provided you read the auction information and pay attention to EBay policy. Every seller has different requirements for shipping and returns, but in most cases if you read the auction information and ask questions of the seller if you are not sure of an item or want more information. Also using Paypal can add protection too.
Always make sure you know about what you are bidding on first so you don't assume that the sellers information is the only information. (Once I was going to buy a collectible Barbie, the auction said it had no certificate of authenticity, I asked why it didn't have it and they told me that Barbie mail order had taken it out because they had got the doll on sale. I phoned Barbie to find out if they really did do that and they told me no. I did not want to buy a fake doll in place of the $300 real one!)
Oh the warning could be an out dated or non supported web browser, or also a warning for public Internet computers where if you 'keep me logged in' and forget to log out, the next person can use your id.

It is probally safe to purchase from e-bay however I have never been one to buy something that I cannot touch and or see with my own eyes prior to purchasing. I've seen a lot of court shows where buyers sue the sellers because the merchandise they received is not the same item featured or it had defects. Then IF you can send it back you have to pay for shipping twice. It is just not worth it to me.

Ebay is very safe. Just to make sure....always check on the bottom of your screen for a paddlelock when you are loggin in. If that's there then it means that it's a secure site.

Oh it is safe however, .... you can't 'return' an item on eBay and more than occasionally you will find that the item you already bought isn't what it seemed to be.
