2 things..
1. Re-install Windows XP
2. Find out whether the system motherboard been overheating
I would open the computer and run a house fan to cool it down.
Regarding to other comments relating to disconnect harddrive suggestion. If the harddrive was disconnected, why would Windows from the harddrive send a blue screen to your monitor? LOL! Duh!
Windows created blue screen of death not the motherboard. It show that the harddrive is live and well but the condition is unknown. Therefore, faulty harddrive may causes it but not the disconnected harddrive.

This sounds like a corrupted hard drive which doesn't sound too good.
I assume you have switched it on and off?
Firstly, do yuo have, or can you get hold of a Windows Recovery disc? You should be able to make one from a working Windows computer (Google it) and try booting from that. It could be a case of a corrupted Windows system file.
If that does not work, you may be able to reinstall Windows if you have the original discs. If you do that, you have a VERY good chance of losing all your data from the drive.
If there is anything vital, you will need to take your computer to a hard disc recovery company who should be able to retrieve valuable files, but these companies are not cheap.
It is also possible that you harddrive is beyond repair in which case you will need to buy a new one and you will certainly lose what is one the damaged one.
Sorry it is not very good news, but if the Windows Recovery disc works, you should be ok.
Good luck!

Yes, this may just be the famous Blue Screen of Death or BSOD. Whenever there is a problem with a Windows file not loading this screen appears. If the error is repeatedly the same, then the HDD is probably toasted. If you don't know what you're doing take it to a pro. Have them set up a new HDD with a new windows install and slave out the old drive so you can try and recover files on the old drive.

2 problems...
1) your harddrive may be disconnected somehow. Turn the machine off, disconnect all wires, open it up. Locate the hard drive. Are all the wires connected properly? If in doubt, check all the wires in there are connected properly and haven't come loose. Your machine may not be recognising the harddrive as you've said.
2) stick all the wires back in the back of it. Got the windows CD? Stick it in and power up. You should hopefully come to a windows setup that has a few options... select the 'Repair Windows' option and let it run. Critical system files that tell your PC how to start may have been corrupted somehow, this will repair them.

It would help if you mentioned what kind of computer and OS. Try reading the manual that came with the computer. There should be an explanation somewhere on how to boot up the computer from another disk (CD, floppy). Once you get the computer to boot, there should be some basic utilities installed that could help find and or fix the problem, like scandisk, scanreg etc.. Let's just hope you don't have some kind of virus.

Doesn't look good for your hard drive.....I would take it in somewhere and get it looked at. If you have any data on there that you may want to retrieve the only way of getting that back is to send your Hard Drive to a data recovery center (Which is not real cheap...but may be worth it depending on what data you may need) or by knowing someone who knows how to do the data recovery. In other words...don't let anyone touch your hard drive unless they know what they are doing. Best of luck!

Blue screen of death!
Get your back-up CD that came with the puter and stick it in the CD drive. It should re install everything. Failing that get a PC doctor out.

Sounds like the hard drive is toast. You need to seek the advice of one of the computer repair shops, or the geek kid down the street. Good luck!

what ever software it has, more than likely windows, has corrupted files in it, which means that widows cannot read the computer language and process information to display. my suggestion, get a new window software progam and downloaded, but only after you take off the exsiting one with the corrupted files. or it vcan be something else.

Looks like the computer has crashed and will need to be re-set. Best bet is off to a local dealer for help.
