and what will happen when one day in the future( 20-30 years from now) we run out of all the land to build new houses on?

There is a housing shortage now, it is likely to worsen over the next ten years.

What I beleive is that whilst it hasn't started anywhere other than China yet, there will be pressure to reduce population sizes eventually.

How can immigration and migrant numbers of possible 2 million plus people not affect the housing market. Even at a wild assumption of those 2 million people taking up 300 000 homes, that is still causing problems for the local population. However its making landlords wealthier. If you don't like immigrants - become a landlord and at least you may make some money out of them.
One thing we definetly should not do - build on green land. Once its gone, its gone forever. I personally think we should reduce the population of the UK, look at New Zealand, they have a population of 4 million and NZ is bigger than the U.K. They don't do bad for themselves.

There already is a housing shortage, have you tried to get social housing recently? They just dump homeless families in B&Bs and leave them to rot.

Unless they can get a mortgage (not possible for everyone) or pay huge inflated rents to private landlords (most won't accept DSS) they won't be able to get anywhere to live.

Poor and low income families have no chance really of getting a place to live, but the Government is still flooding the country with immigrants. Shows how ignorant they are about what is going on under their noses.

i work for an architect and believe me it does not look like there will be any shortage of houses for people in the future, and there will always be some sort of land, you will find they will start redeveloping old sites and things like that, but it will continue throughout the ages, obviously for housing executive it is always difficult but for everyone who can buy or rent themselves, there will always be somewhere, i mean there is so many apartment developments being thrown up at the minute

Even with immigration the UK's population is almost at zero growth. The predictions that I've seen actually say that if we don't allow additional imigration the population of the UK will fall.

If that happens (which would be a bad thing for our economy) then quote the reverse will occur - there will be a glut of housing on the market.

Good question. I suppose you guys will have to change your immigration laws. That would slow down some of the population growth. We wounder the same thing here in the states. I guess when we get so crowded that we cant house everyone, disease will break out like the plague and thin our herds some.

There will always be a housing shortage and not always due to imigrants, open up more Brown sites and lets all live comfortable, instead of living in so called slums with rogue landlords.

To meet peoples aspirations, yes, there will be a shortage. However, everyone at the moment lives somewhere.

It all rather makes a mockery of allowing large scale immigration. Unless, of course, they expect the indiginous Brits. to be so fed up that they will emigrate to Africa.
