What do you do to take your mind completely off everything?

I paint canvasses and sell them. I find painting gives me an almost meditatory (is that a word?? lol) state of mind. It's fab.

That's awesome Edna! I'm a painter too! It is relaxing. You get so involved in doing a piece that the rest of the world melts away. Art is very cleansing. It's therapeutic. Picasso said "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." I've only sold a few paintings so far. It's silly but I don't really like parting with my work! I just had a show & I was relieved that none of them sold so I could take them back home (kind of defeats the purpose of being an artist! Good thing I still have a day job! But they're like my babies. I get attached to them & don't want to part with them. Yeah, I'm a little OCD I think...) I also write songs, play guitar & sing. I used to do yoga. That was very relaxing. I have to get back into it! I find the most relaxing & meditative thing on earth though is just snuggling in bed with my cat & watching tv on a cold winter's day when I don't have to work! The sound of her purring is so comforting. It's like a mantra telling me "You're ok...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrelax...."

Well, my favorite "happy place" is either on a river sandbar or island beach, sipping a cool one, watching the river flow, enjoying the sunshine.

If I need to "de-stress," it's a hot shower, followed by a stiff drink or hot toddy, then some massage therapy from my wife. Usually, I'll get so relaxed I'll nod right off.

1) Listening & watching the waves at the beach
2) Listening to the rain fall on a galvanized roof or the rustle of leaves on the trees during a nice breezy day
3) Listening to my favorite music with the volume level at the exact setting.. alone cruising in my ride on a nice day

I live on a beautiful Caribbean Island, 365 beaches.... so I have no problems finding the ultimate..... there are so many things....

4) Taking a nice refreshing shower then going to bed with sun-dried clean sheets with lingering hint of fabric softener....

5) Ooh.. there's nothing like a nice massage......

I used to paint. I know what you mean, it was so absorbing and relaxing, time just used to vanish.

A long walk is very relaxing, almost hypnotic.

My present relaxation is reading. Another dimension to escape to.

Sitting at the beach with ear phones - slow music and watching the sunset with breeze running through my hair and hitting my face.
