Poster board. Make a 2 ft' square on a piece of posterboard, mark a big X diagonally from corner to corner both ways, cut one leg of the X from corner to center, fold along other three lines, and tape at final edge. Voila, a 1ft. tall pyramid. It will only have three sides, and if you want a four sided one, you will have to use the same principle but start with a five sided figure instead of a square.

When my daughter had to build one, we went to Lowe's and got these styrofoam insulation panels. There were four to a pack and they were cheap! We then used spray paint to color them, and used a second coat of regular paint with sand added to it to give it a textured look. While it was still tacky, we used a toothpick to scribe lines in it to simulate the look of blocks. On the inside we left it with just the first coat of paint, and my daughter did her best to paint hieroglyphs in it. On side we left unattached so she could remove it and the interior could be seen.

Options are many using : Wet Sand - clay - paper mache and cardboard are just a few - the latter two can be painted to look more realistic.

Have fun being creative.
