My nurse in the NICU said that girls have a higher survival rate than boys, but not because of lung development. In her humble opinion it was because girls tend to be better fighters and the boys were "lazier" for lack of a better word. I have to say it wasn't a comforting thought because my son was a patient there. His lungs were developed (he was 6 weeks early), his problem was he didn't want to eat.
He's fine by the way. 5 yrs old and as ornery as any other 5 yr old boy. But her saying that put a little bit of fear in me.

As a matter of fact that is true. I know because I went into labor 8 weeks early and my specialtist told us that. Of course I still got the steroid shots to help her lungs grow but she was born 6 weeks early and never needed any oxygen at all.

i have just heard that if there are two permature babies at the same gestational age ( one girl and one boy) then the girl would most likely live. scientists don't know why but thta's just how it is, also black babies have a greater chance of living than white, isn't that kinda cool to know

no. THis is not a gender thing, every child develops at a slightly different rate.
