It says you can apply for the grant if you are recieving child tax credit at a higher rate than the family element. BUT surely everyone who gets child tax credit gets it at a highter rate than the family element because they also get a child element. Can someone help explain this?

We only get the family element, and we have 2 children, we get just over 500 a year. Its all do do with the wage you earn. Our salary is 30,000 a year if this helps, and we dont get the child element of tax credits.

If I were you, i'd apply for the grant anyway, if you are on a low income or low joint income, claim any benefits or get job seekers/council tax benefit, you will likely get the grant. Tax credits are so confusing, i wouldn't let it worry you, just apply, they can only say no. good luck x

I am having exactly the same problem lol its so confusing. I guess i am going to apply anyway whats the worst that can happen they can only say no. I would rather that happen than miss out on the money £500 would come in very handy there's so much stuff to buy.
