The American Dream is a meta-dream: we dream that we could have such a dream. But it is no longer possible to think this way: that by due diligence a person could make a meaningful life, with family, security, and moderate abundance. This 'dream of the 50s' is over. What people face, for the most part, is insecurity, competition for white collar work where there are many over-qualified individuals for any position. We want to believe in the myth, we dream in the dream, of being naive enough to be certain of all our own convictions and methods to attain success. The reality is stark: some are far more lucky to be where they are than others, and will live an enchanted life, while others, no matter how hard they try, will be buried by the world they were thrown into. And even those lucky enough to perpetuate the veracity of the dream will face adversity today. To accomplish any measure of assurance takes Herculean strength and ribald narcissism to make it happen. The American Dream is at odds with the motivations of those who truly step up to succeed. We are not so naive. It takes more than hope and hard work.

David, Mr. M knows it all.
The American Dream is a dream dreammed in a dream.
As every dream, the American Dream is not real, and, therefore, it cannot come true because ideal things never com to this. That's what defines them.
Substantially speaking, the so called American Dream is an utopia of the majority of the US citizens, today since a given period of the past century.
That's it.

To do what you want , when you want in any way that you want.
Solomon accomplished this, he was the richest man in the world, he was the most powerful man in the world (At the time)
He was the most sexually endowed man with over a 100 wives and as many children
He was the most educated man in the world with the equivilancy of mutliple PH d's and after he had all that, at the end of his life he said, that it was all vanity, that you can have all that, but if you do not have God in your life, it is better that you have never existed, he said it was better to be born dead than to have all that and not have God in your life.
Interesting isn't it?
