We have had sugar for 4 years, she is a really good dog, but we have two children now, and we want to find a home for her so somebody can give her attention I can't. Where can I find a place to take my dog instead of the pound? I'll miss her so much, but I just can't take care of my children, my husband when he is home, and our other 2 dogs. What can I do?

no she is a great dog, but the problem is she destroyed our bathroom and laundry room, she needs to be outside all the time. She would be fine.

I didn't have children when we had gotten sugar, so what I'm suppose to wait to have children until my dog passes?

Sugar bear, I call her has already gone to school, we spent 2,000 to train her, and she keeps on faultering. It's not her fault though. I'm sure that an old couple would just LOVE sugar.

My son, Daughter, and I are all allergic to dogs and cats also, but it's way to much to handle when I see my son and daughter stratching themselves even when they take medication

The reality is that pitbulls, while they are great dogs (and I known many that were absolute mushes) have a horrible reputation and are very hard to adopt. And older dogs also are often very hard to place, as most people looking for a dog want either a puppy or at least a young adult. At 8, your dog is considered a senior. Even if you are able to place her at a no-kill shelter, the odds against her being adopted out are pretty high and there are quite a few shelters that will not take pitbulls, no matter how well mannered they are.
If you really love this dog and honestly cannot keep her, then you have really only two options. Take the time to find a good home for her yourself, which means screening people carefully and making sure that you can follow up and ensure that she is being cared for properly. Or consider having her humanely euthenized. I know that the later would be a painful option, but it's kinder than letting her linger in a shelter for the rest of her life or to end up in a bad situation.
Seriously think about this before making the decision to give her up.

Advice from a animal rescuer: Be careful of adopting her out to someone in the public. Their are people who make a living off finding free dogs to sale to companies to be used in labs for testing they like to get family pets since they are easier to handle, asking a adopting fee at least $75 would help prevent this. Since she is a Pitt bull someone might think they can make her a fighing dog or want to chain her to a dog house to scare people away. Having her spayed would be best since she couldn't be used to breed puppies for fighting. The best solution is looking up animal rescues or better yet a pitt bull rescue in your area, sad to say not all rescues are ligit and will put up a front to get certain breeds of dogs to sale, fight, breed to make money. The rescue should evaluate the dog and get lots of info on her and her personality, their adoption policy sould include making sure it is a indoor home with access to a family and a vet referance, home check prior to adotpion and follow up home visits. Pet Finder is a great web site to use for finding rescues in your state. If I can get your area I will see if I have any rescues in my network that are good rescues. nccrescue@yahoo.com

Well, surely when you got the pet that you had intentions to one day have children and expected a few things to get destroyed once in a while. I would keep the dog and get a pen or something. You could give the dog attention when the kids are napping and such. Quit being so selfish, obviously you have lots of love to go around.

I would suggest you give her to a pit bull rescue organization. They will put her in a foster home, not a kennel and will screen anyone who wants to adopt her. They will make sure she will be safe and will never be used to fight or be abused. The members of these Breed specific rescue centers are dedicated to the breed and do great jobs and I have heard of a pit bull rescue org. Try looking on petfinders.com and search for your breed of dog. This might give you some names of rescue orgs. that might take her. Good luck

Contact the pitbull dog rescues, they will assist you in finding the perfect home for her as they do screen the adoptive "new" owners! do not send her to the dog pound!!!!!!,becuase of the misinformation people have on pitbulls(sad but true),your dog is older may total over looked!!!!Most pitbull rescues can be found on internet, contact all of them,as somes it may take awhile, there seems to be alot of this breed in a rescue program, but they are the most informedon this breed, and just love them all!!!!!!!GOD LUCK TO YOU AND SUGAR!!!!!!

if i were you i would foster the dog or send it too another foster home. it doesn't sound extremely urgent, so i wouldn't recommend sending him to an animal shelter. It sounds like you really care about your dog and want the best for him. don't listen to the other people on this that are saying your a bad person. Your dog deserves the best
Good luck!

it seems you have put forth a lot of effort to keep sugar bear in the family, for that i commend you!
i understand some animals just don't acclimate to new additions to the family, of any species.
try breed specific rescues, ads at the vet/pet stores, pet finder.com.
sugar bear sounds like a great dog, someone will take her to a loving home!
all our best!

thats hard it depends where you live pits are banned here in my state because they have been killing other people and animals. i would find someone to take it maybe through an adoption agency i'm sure there is somewhere you can google to place a ad for this breed in particular since they have such a bad rep. i found a website for ferretts like this so i'm sure there is one for pit bulls.

Have you tried locating a dog or animal rescue? I would search the internet until I found either a dog rescue or animal rescue in your area.

It's hard to find a home for an 8-year old dog.
Don't you think it'll be really hard on her to be relocated to a new family?
