First and foremost let me point this out....It's OK to be sad, it's a part of life - it will happen many more times.
Secondly - thing on the happier times in your life - happier moments that made you happy, warm inside - fuzzy. Also know that there are people in way worse situation than you are.
Good luck.
PS and like someone mentioned before, PRAY - it never hurts and it never fails.

Go outside. Don't be crammed up in a house or room. That only fuels your sadness. And when you do go out, open your eyes! Look around you! (Now don't focus on the houses, streets, garbage like that. But focus on the sky. The trees, and the those things. And think of this: Even in dark times(Winter) trees still blossom, and the flowers do grow.(Spring.) You get my point? Nothing is as bad as it seems. But you cannot just sit and dwell on your sadness because 1) it leads to depression. 2) You lose faith in yourself and those around you. 3) You let your own sadness confine you. It important to understand that materials do not help sometimes, but if you observe nature and it's beauty it does clear your mind to think properly.

Talk to a friend, parent, pastor, rabbi, or if it is just a passing sadness take a walk, or a drive. Anything to get your mind off it.
Or you can just put a smile on your face, and see how it generates inwardly.

As a mom of seven (four are in college) anytime the sun is out I try to sit in it for ten minutes. Also, I try to focus on helping some one who may really be in need. These things always seem to work for me.
