Spain has become dearer as the years have gone on, and I think we have helped push the price of some things through the roof.
I don't live in the Costa del Sol so can't speak about it (it's usually considered more expensive than the Costa Blanca) but if you are seeking a cheap holiday then perhaps try places here in this lovely country where there aren't many tourists or expats, then for sure you would get a better deal and it would be a real Spanish experience (not like coming to little Britain as in some areas) and paying through the nose.
Have a happy holiday where ever you choose.

Depends where in Spain you want to go. In Galicia, the north of Spain, prices are very much cheaper than in England. Galicia is very different from the Costa del So and although the weather is not as hot all year round, it is hot in the summer months. Its not full of the Brits abroad crowd and no high rise hotels either. Investigate, you may well be surprised!

Spain in general is quite cheap cos its so close (if you live in the UK) I went to the Costa Brava and it's lovely, I adore Spain. Barcelona is quite cheap to get to, most of the main cities are, or the notorious places like Ibiza. Try last minute deals at your local travel agents, or expedia.co.uk, lastminute.com and if your gonna build your own holiday then fly easyjet.

Cheaper than the rest of Europe, but still expensive. Gas 1.00 per liter, meal between 5-10 for cheap dinner. Hotels in big cities, 80-100 euros for sofitel. Really pretty though.
