You probably inserted the drive once before you had the driver loaded on the PC. Because of that, 98 tried to detect the device and could not find a driver for it, so it added the device without a driver. You can install the driver, but it will not be used by 98 because it already has the device installed without the the driver.

Plug the drive into the computer, then go into the Device Manager. Look to see if you have an "unknow device" or any other device with a Yelow ! in front of it. If so, right click on the device and uninstall it.

Remove and reinsert the drive and hopefully it will correctly detect it this time (now that the drivers are on the PC).

If there is not Yellow ! device, then go to the USB section of the Device Manager. Uninstall all the devices in the USB section. This will clear any settings for previously installed USB devices. Reboot the PC and it should redetect and reinstall the USB port(s). Then insert the pendrive and it should reinstall correctly.

I also have a 1GB Datatraveller but I have no problem with it working on Win98, but I did find this fom the Kingston site:

"Kingston has discontinued Windows 98SE support for recently released DataTravelers. Unless your packaging states that Windows 98SE is supported for file transfer, via Compatibility Table, Kingston cannot guarantee compatibility with these drivers on Windows 98SE."

That is found here: http://www.kingston.com/support/downloads/usbdatatrav/default.asp?s=DTI_HS

To hopefully fix the problem go here: http://www.kingston.com/support/faqs/datatraveler/faq_dti_hs_3.asp

Hope that helps...
