Algae is a green plant, therefore it uses photosynthesis to make its food. The green color comes from chloroplasts which make chlorophyll, a type of food plants use. Photosynthesis is the process of taking carbon dioxide, sunlight (or light), and chlorophyll for respiration and food.

Yes most types of algae do, athough I think there are a few types of algae or moss that don't require sunlight.

If it's a green plant it most definitely needs sunlight. The green you see is chlorophyll. And chlorophyll can only be produced through photosynthesis, which requires sunlight.
