Nope...I started watching wrestling when Monday Night Raw came out. At that point, Hogan was gone and Bret Hart was champion. I was hooked because of RAW, NOT HOGAN.
Yes, Hogan paved the way for a LOT of people that watch wrestling today. But not for ME - and thank goodness for that.

You people are very uneducated if you think for one minute hogan put wrestling on the map. What put wresting on the map if marketing. Marketing is how you you bring your business to your potential customer. Hogan was wrestling before wwe and most people dont even know him and andre the giant fought way before wrestlemania 3 years before at she staduim called the shea showdown. What made wrestling big is back in the day they had good story lines and it was simple now half of raw is a bunch of overgrown steroid freaks trying talk and you cant understand half of what there saying some talk some rap some just wiggle there ******. wrestling is not wrestling anymore now its a mix of hollywood and porn.

No. This is not true. We would still be watching wrestling even if Hogan didn't put it on the map. Plus Hogan went to WCW along with some other big names(Diesel, Scott Hall). The real reason we watch wrestling today is because of the Rock and Stone Cold and The Undertaker. They ruled their profession.

Guys like Hogan and Piper MADE the WWF, guys later like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels took it to the next level and then The Rock and Steve Austin brought wrestling back. The question is this, who's the next group of stars who's going to bring it back to the forefront? John Cena leads the class, hate him or love him, Cena tries hard in the ring and has a great attitude. I'm tired of hearing about his lack of a move set, 4 out of the 6 guys I named above are the same way, they were strikers, Cena falls into the Steve Young Curse as I like to call it. Young was a great Quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in the 90s, but he never got the proper respect since he was following in the footsteps of Joe Montana, arguably the greatest QB of all time. Cena is being held to the standards of the guys ahead of him and whether or not that's fair to do (we always compare one generation to the previous one), in this case (and Youngs) its almost near impossible to get of the shadows of the guys before him. If he had some REAL help rather then stiffs like Batista it would be easier for everyone involved.

i agree to a point. hulk hogan did make wrestling popular with a wide scale audience, but mostly to people who weren't wrestling fans to begin with, like you said, basically little kids. wrestling fans before the 80's boom however are still bigger Flair fans, myself included. Hogan had the McMahons behind his rise to popularity. Flair only had the southern influences of the old AWA/NWA with no budget to work with. you want to talk about REAL wrestling fans, fans of those wrestling promotions were the real fans. people like the rock and Stone cold did great business too. the difference with them and hogan? those 2 guys can actually WRESTLE. hogan has a few punches a boot to the face and a leg drop. (yawn)

Well it wasn't just Hogan and Vince it was also Flair, Snuka, and Dusty Rhodes, that's why we have wrestling the way it is now as opposed to when the midgets were wrestling back in the 30's and 40's

To use the B-ball metaphor, Hogan is the Wilt Chamberlain. He first got butts into seats. Bret hart and Shawn Michaels were the Magic and Bird- they took it to the next level. The Rock is the MJ of the business. He truly transcended and brought in a whole new load of fans. Steve Austin is the Rodman- you wanted to see what he would do next. Now, it is a lot like the NBA. All of the stars are gone.
I guess that makes VKM David Stern.

This pains me to say, but if it wasn't for Hogan, I probably would not have started watching wrestling. He just drew people in. It didn't matter that he couldn't wrestle, he had charisma and was a bigger then life presence. Unfortunately, I learned the type of person he was when I met him and he was extremely rude to me. So now, I hate his guts but if I'm being honest, I don't know if I would be a wrestling fan if it wasn't for him.

I agree. Hogan was the reason I started watching wrestling in the first place.

You all don't understand. He said he put it on the map...As he did...no one would have watched wrestling if it wasn't for him. The guys wresling today wouldnt be wrestling if it wasn't for him. He is the man who mad it, he is pretty much the creation of it and that is what he says and it is true. You kids may watch it now and say, i watch it because i like other guys. But the fact is, is that the guys wouldnt be their either if it was for hogan...SO he put it on the map and he is the man behind the glory of them all.
