The Harper government lost their motion to extend the terroism bill. Will it now be open season for them to come here knowing this. I know we already have many here, but now that they know they can't be touched.

Personally I think it is a shame that all the oposition did this, it just proves that they are not fit to run a counrty when they put the rights of terrorist above us Canadians

We here in the US have Democrats, and our Canadian friends have Grits (and God help them, the NDP). You're absolutely correct: It's amazing that the left seems to value the "rights" of those who wish to eliminate our Western way of life and impose Sharia law on us more than they value the right of the people to be secure in their own homeland. It's enough to make one wonder whatever became of "Peace, order, and good government".

Actually it was two motions within the act that the were lost. The act still stands intact however, the government is no longer allowed to arrest without Charge, Or collect information outside of the bounds of the Privacy act without warrant. They were measure similar to those of the Patriot Act that Canadians are very critical of.

This bill was drafted shortly after the 9-11 attacks by the liberal government as an immediate action plan while Canadian intelligence was reinforced, immigration laws revised, and intelligence sharing programs were put into place.

The fact is that these two measure were never actually used, and they did infringe upon the charter of rights and freedoms, that is why they had an expiration date, that is why there was no extension.
