I don't know what one would put it down to; perhaps an angel, perhaps our subconscious, but it does seem that something's going on.
For instance. Paul McCartney famously dreamed the tune of Yesterday and spent days humming it to people and saying "What is this?" before realising he'd composed it himself. Sting has this idea that songs are kind of in the ether and anyone
could have composed Yesterday; it just found Paul McCartney.
Most spectacularly of all, back in the 1970's, when Stevie Wonder was just magnificent, he dreamed six or seven tracks in one night and pretty much had an album worked out by lunchtime. True inspiration.
I'm sure there are many other examples of this kind of thing out there and I'd be interested to know of them myself.
