have the students choose a career, research it to find out requirements & possible pay. Then have them plan a budget for a year on that salary, including everything that they might have to pay for.

Also, have them research educational requirements and the costs associated with this. Calculating the # of hours spent in school and the payoff in terms of later salary can get you at a per hour spent in school earnings figure. This helps students see a measure of value in their education.

Prepare to show how each career reflects back to the classes the kids are taking. How they use math, science, history, etc in everyday life.
