switch it on pressing F8 repeatedly, start in safe mode/administrator.. then do a full virus scan, and use system restore if you can,... if this doesn;t work, you will have to use the manufacturer format discs and start again from scratch.. gluck..

Hello,
(ANS) It sounds like you have a dodgy video cable connection between the monitor & the computers base unit (system unit).
No.1 Make sure the monitor is connected to the back of the base unit (system unit) the connection is usualy at the back and should be a smallish 9 to 15 pin connector. (the male pins have to match the female socket on the back of the computer).
**Make sure the monitor is plugged into the mains electricity BEFORE you switch on the computer.
**The computer may have lost its power settings in windows but thats pretty straight forwards to correct if windows is working correctly. It might have lost the settings because it was switched off for so long.
No.2 If you can get the computer to switch on, and display an image or a normal windows desktop. Next goto start, start menu, settings, goto control panel, inside control panel, see power or power settings, open this up. Within power settings you should see an option that relates to a) standby b) hibernation. If either of these are enabled then untick the check box and click OK!!
Reboot the computer, re-start the computer and that should have fixed it hopefully?
Best Regards IR

I have met this problem with older PCs when they are moved. Often the moving flex their motherboards and dislodge the graphics card (where you plug in the monitor), if there is one. If this is the case, open the case and push the card well into the slot and try switching on.
If not, check the monitor plug to see if any pins (15 of them) is bent/broken. If all else fails, something may be wrong with the PC other than the graphics. If it was stored in a damp place, some of the contacts between components may have suffered. The other possibility is that the backup battery may have run down during storage and the PC may have lost its BIOS setup. Does it boot at all, and can you get up anything on the screen?

Could be as simple as a dead CMOS battery on the motherboard, you will need to open it up, look for a round watch type battery, replace with another, of the same type etc, other possibilities you can look at while you have the side off, check for loose connections, loose graphics card, loose cables, listen/look for fans kicking in, hard drive spinning up, check that the monitor cable is connected correctly in the back, its process of elimination, good luck.

If the computer powers up, most likely it's not the computer.
Check your monitor cable. If you recently reconnected it, make sure its in firmly and if it is, remove it and check for bent pins (look carefully! a pin might just be askew) and reinsert it.
If you have on-board video AND a video card, try the other connector. I've been bitten by this one.... Look for the three-row trapezoidal jack. More than one? Try the other.
