lets see a timing chain needs to be replaced, more than likely you have oil leaking making the smoke, and you probably need a new muffler, but before you ask questions on here, why havent you figured out that the best way to find out what is really wrong is to take the vehicle into a mechanic & have it checked out, a reputable place will always give you a written estimate as to what is needed on parts & repairs, the cost etc...., then you can determine if you really want to fix it or what you really need to do.

If it isn't timed right, it could be very possible to have the tail pipe smoke. You won't have the 4 cycles happening at the right times ie; fuel burning on its way out the exhaust valve instead of in the cylinder.

Other possible causes: Bad piston rings, valve seats warn, blown head gasket.

But it does sound like a timing issue more than the others I mentioned.

Need more info....Year, make, model. and the last time you did an oil change and tune up.
As a cheap guess you may have overfilled your engine with oil and fouled the plugs, or the plugs are fouled due to leaky valve seals.
EIther way it shouldn't have had anything to do with timing allthough now that you have tried adjusting who knows.......

The timing chain may have slipped a tooth and your cam is out of time. First thing is to check the error codes.

until now catalytic converters, black soot became a demonstration of an exceedingly gasoline rich situation. in view that 'seventy 5, exhaust structures with cat/cons have that black soot buildup. it is common. even however, in the journey that your vehicle is smoking, it fairly is not typical.

Valve rings are leaking. It's oil. Stop playing with it, you'll go nuts.
