The best way to start playing fantasy football is to join a public league on Yahoo that is free. That will give you a chance to learn the aspects and get familiar with the players. If you are looking to start a fantasy league, then likely you would be the commissioner, unless it is the idea of a bunch of friends, then maybe you can elect a commissioner. You can run a league thru Yahoo for free or you can go to sites like CBS Sportsline that costs money to use their system. I have been playing for 10 years now and it is very addicting. The free leagues are the best way to start, though.

Fantasy Football is one of the greatest things to happen to Average Joe since sliced bread. After one season, I guarantee you, you will know who plays what position on every team and whether or not they're any good.
You will need about 8-12 people to have a good league if you plan on doing it with just your friends. Yahoo! provides an awesome set up for new and experienced alike, setting you up in a league against people across the country. You play against another team every week, points are awarded depending on how well the player in real life games.
Example: Peyton Manning throws for 300 yards and 2 TD's. Most scoring systems are set up to have x amount of yards equal one point and TD's equal points (usually six). We'll say every 50 yards passing equals one point and every TD is six for this example. Peyton would get you six points for yards passing (300 yds divided by 50 yds/pass = 6) and twelve points for the TD's (6 pts per TD times 2 TD's = 12) for a total of 18 points.
All leagues have their own scoring methods and will be set before the draft happens.
The draft usually works with a random drawing for every team owner in the league. The first round goes in the order drawn with the second round usually going in the reverse order drawn (last team picking first in the even rounds and first team picking last), commonly referred to as a "snake draft".
The league will set its own filling requirements as to how many players can be played per week. Yahoo! leagues default to having to play 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 Team Defense.
The commissioner is in charge of everything related to the league. He/she is responsible for being notified of trades, picking/dropping of players, roster changes, and anything else that other players need to happen for their teams. The commissioner is usually the person that sets up the league. If playing online, there is usually no commissioner assigned as all rosters must be submitted before the kickoff of the first game of that week.
Hope this helps you. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a line.

ah.... noobie, welcome!
its simple, u draft a league and become the general manager for ur team
u draft, add, drop, trade players as u wish.
u make ur team better than ne 1 else, and then ur gonna be in 1st place, and hopefully win the playoffs
if there is a pot of money involved, u get as much money as all the ppl put in for the year
pots for the regular season and playoffs are 2 totally diff. things, u need 1st place in both the reg season and playoffs in order to win everything

You will have to wait until you can sign up but then after that all you have to do to be a commissioner is to sign up, and then sign up on the one that says, start your own league.
