Think about all the money we spend on, not just war, but all the mechanisms of war. Wouldn't it be interesting to imagine ourselves without all of it? Where would we channel all that energy? What might we accomplish instead? I wonder if we are able to imagine a peaceful country, let alone a peaceful world. I hope that you might try, at least, to envision it in your own mind and offer your ideas here.

I understand the frustration some of you feel here - believing that this is not possible. However, the way to create the possibility for peace to exist, we must first be able to envision it in our minds. If we continually focus on war and the inevitability of the threat of war, we will continue to create just what we have. Change begins within each of us. Nothing is impossible if we can create a belief within ourselves that allows for the possibility of something new. War is NOT human nature! It is our creation and we can choose to create something else, but we must first believe something else is possible. This is why I ask you this question. Maybe we can start to believe something else is possible!

go back to 1929..the average american was not working for anyone as he was self employed or unemployed and on the skids as their was not welfare state then.
you either worked or starved.
people were not homeless they were just bums or hobos
I lived through some bad times and I know most of the kiddies during these days won't be able to live without their fast food or their computers or dvd or cds etc etc..
what will happen is the churches will fill up again as the world runs out of the food supply and man turns into something out of the dark ages..i am glad i won't be here to see this happen.
Look what happened when Katrina hit New Orleans? Civilization will be put back 500 years and darkness will cover our great society. Our country is very close to collapse and it would not take much to cause these things to happen..thats what I envision because America has no culture and no need for God so why should anything or anyone care?

Well, despite the "utopian" outlook that could be inspired by ending the war right now, we all know it won't be that simple. Some of the other answers show that many don't believe this country would exist without war........which is wrong, but that's the mentality that allows us to kill others and make it seem right.

As for the money, that should be funnelled back into the programs it's being taken from.......Social Security for the elderly, housing for the homeless, and job training for those who didn't have the money to get to college. Make us a better people, and we can survive........give us the ingredients to make a good life, and we (well, at least most of us, anyway), will turn that into a lifetime of achievement.

"Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime."

Good words to live by!!

I don't see it as the US making war. Wars have been occurring since the beginning of mankind. Cain killed Abel.

Our soliders are fighting in many countries, not just Iraq. They volunteer their lives for the world. I don't see them at protecting the US, they protect the world from evil.

Of course world peace would be wonderful. But it will never happen until Jesus' returns and destroys all evil. Man doesn't have that much power. And it's not the US that declares all the wars in the world. Other countries go to war with other countries.

sturdy initiate. yet Hitler replace into in basic terms a pon. look on the great image: a million. After WW1 Germany is rather humiliated (land grab, impossible expenses imposed). 2. This plunges Germany in an rather enormous financial disaster, with very severe poverty and unemployment costs. 3. For a before wealthy united states of america, it particularly is unbearable to be the two undesirable and sense so humiliated. severe humiliation comes with severe remedies... and subsequently Germans start to run after a dictator who provides them their dignity lower back. 4. As in line with known while the financial gadget is going down... intolerance is going up.. There constantly must be a scapegoat, ideally an rather seen one: for that reason the jews. they're being blamed for almost each and every thing, by in simple terms approximately each and every physique. 5. Germany's potential grows lower back, and to shake off the feel of humiliation it particularly is flexing its muscle mass. not something extra perfect for an financial gadget as a sturdy conflict. Germany starts speaking threatening language to Austria etc. 6. Germany starts grabbing land from others. The appeasement comes into action. maximum worldwide leaders save thinking: 'Germany is a civilized united states of america... they gained't go that some distance...". Miscalculation. Their unaction makes Germany bolder. 7. Germany invades Poland and WW2 starts off. What a tragedy. they might have been stopped years earlier, which might have brought about casualties yet by no potential the 60 million that WW2 brought about. So, specific, on occasion it particularly is extra perfect to decide for a lesser evil, than to watch for the very enormous one to improve. If it particularly is in simple terms too a lot for you, stick with your essay as above - it particularly is rather sturdy!

We all have probably thought about that, but it will never happen. There is too much evil in this world for that to happen.

The one thing that we as people can do is be better to those around us, treat each other the way that we want to be treated. Then at least we will be doing some thing even in a small way to make our own world better. If all else you will keep being a good example to those around you.

Good luck to all of us to do and be better people in our world!!

Are you crazy!?

The United States' whole economy is based on the war machine. What would we do without war? What would we talk about? What would we gripe about? What would our political leaders do without war over which to argue? How would we be able to determine which of our political leaders to hate, if not for war?

I don't think you've fully thought through your question. A nation whose focus isn't war? Ha! What are you smoking?

Sometime soon a really necessary war that is absolutely vital to
our interests will need to fought. BUT because of George Bush,
and IRAQ, Eisenhower and Kennedy in Southeast Asia. WE the people will be so gun shy, that it will cause us to hesitate and then the fun will really begin!

How unrealistic you are. Do you honestly think that if the U.S. stopped making "mechanisms of war" the rest of the world would follow suit? If you really think this is so...I have some land on mars I want to sell--are you interested?
