It doesnt hurt as much as getting your nose done (that nearly made me cry!)
Its annoying for about 3 days afterwards because your tongue swells up (about 3 times bigger than usual) and the bar in your tongue presses on the bottom of your mouth, in the same spot, constantly for 3 days. Oh and you cant eat real food while your tongue is swollen!
Other than that theres no hassles. Ive had mine in about 5 years and havent chipped or cracked a tooth on it so far.
I was worried about the teeth getting damaged part n spoke to my dentist who said mine were showing no signs of damage from it (that was about a year ago). Would imagine if it was going to knacker my teeth it would have done so by now.
I ummed and arred for ages before getting mine done, was so happy with it once it was done.
If you dont like it you can always take it out.
If you do have it done make sure you get some anteseptic mouthwash to keep it clean and infection free whilst it heals.

just so you know it's actually the least painful piercing because there are no nerves really in the middle of your tongue. It's also the quickest to heal properly. The two main cons are that you can damage your teeth if you play with it alot (especially if you have a metal ring as opposed to a plastic one) and if it gets infected, as all piercings can, it can be very serious. If your tongue gets infected, the infection can spread through the body much much quicker than from a piercing elswhere. Prevent this happening by carrying around a bottle of alcohol free mouthwash and rinsing your mouth well everytime you eat/drink/have a cigarette. Go for it I say - if you don't like it you can always just take it out!!!!

i have had my tongue pierced since i was 16. so thats nearly 5 years. i would absolutley recommend you doing it.
first of all the ''pain factor'' - in my experience it wasnt that bad, its done sooo fast that u hardly realise its been done, i did feel a little uncomfortable for maybe 5 days that was only due to the size of the bar and stud, which should be larger than normal as your tongue swells and the extra room is needed. after a week i went back and they fitted a smaller normal sized bar and stud and its been fab ever since.
if u do have it pierced, in the first week u must watch what u eat, the piercer should advise u not to eat really spicy foods, and they would generally advise u to eat soups and cool food that wont cause aggravation to the piercing. washing ur mouth out with salty water is good also, and getting a good mouthwash (i'd say) is essential.
its such a funky piercing, absolutley go for it!

I think if you'd like to do it then go for it - it's really not painful at all. But please be aware that there can be unexpected complications. I actually had it done twice. The first time all was well for a week until I awakend one night with my mouth filled with blood. The barbell had gotten stuck somehow and it tore a little bit. It healed fine after a quick trip to the emergency room, and I ended up getting it done again a few months later. No problems ever after that until I took it out (just grew out of it). Just make sure if you decide to get it done that you do the whole Listerine thing and have good oral care. And at the first sign of any problem, go to the doctor!

I had my tongue sone after much deliberation, after a year I took it out. I really loved it but valued my teeth more. It doesnt matter how careful you are or whether u put in a plastic ball on the end you can still damage youteeth really badly. I cracked a tooth and took it out immediately. I do miss it from time to time but as I say I like my smile more.
PS it REALLY hurts when you have it done and you are recommended to eat ice lollies for about 3 days afterwards. Once you take it out it heals up in no time. x

I've got my tongue pierced, when you first have it done it swells quite a bit so they put a bar in that it about 2 inches long, it's a bit uncomfortable and you have to have it in for two weeks but then after that you can have a normal sized bar in, it does hurt having you tongue pierced but no more than you belly (I've got that done too) but they will numb it first.

When i had my tatoo done i was overwhelmed with ghost stories of how painful it is. I didnt find it painful at all. It depends on diferent factors.I also had my ears pierced, top and bottom..and it wasnt painful..im not trying to be macho but it really didnt hurt. I think tootache is more painful..If you want to pierce your tongue then do it..it is your own sense of identity and if you dont like then just take it out...people will always have something bad to say..screw them and pierce it girlfriend!

I have had mine done for about 3 years now, and never had any problems with it. Your tounge will swell up, but different people react differently. I couldnt eat solids for about 3 days, but my friend was eating pizza 2 hours after!!
As for the pain of getting it done, I just asked my piercer to numb it, so I didnt feel a thing!
My belly button hurt more than my tounge.
The aftercare is quite easy, you just use mouthwash and drink plenty of water

All piercings are a bad idea, and piercing the tongue is up there in the "Really bad idea" department.
The pros you know.
Here are the cons:
Possible loss of tasting ability, chipped teeth, it is harder to talk afterward (This normally clears up but in some it persists), difficulty eating and swallowing, higher rate of infection which can lead to a number of serious issues (the worst of which is amputation of the tongue, yes it has happened)

i feel like if ur scared then dont but actually its not as painful as u think. i have had it done twice. i use to think, when i bite my tongue it hurts, so i know getting it pierced will.lol. but it didnt i promise. afterwards just keep rinsing in listerine until the swelling goes down u an eat, but inse everyday to keep it from getting infected. it was cool t me, but now that i am older, more mature, and saved i wouldnt do it again. because in the bible its wrong to get exotic piercings and tattoos. u b d judge
