At this point, the best chance for the US to host the Summer Olympics will be in 2016. Two cities, Los Angeles & Chicago are bidding to be the US designee. Whichever city is selected by the USOC, (United States Olympic Committee), will then be slated to be put forward to the IOC, (International Olympic Committee) against other cities around the world, to host the games. The IOC will make that decision sometime in 2009, as usually the IOC will select the host city seven years before those games.

If the Us wins the nest bid it will probably be 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Beijing 2008(summer), Vancouver 2010 winter,
London 2012(summer), 2014 Winter Olympic games (not yet bid).
If a city in Africa, South America, or in the Middle East makes a bid it will be held there.

There is nothing scheduled yet. Beijing and London have the next Summer games with Vancouver holding the 2010 winter games. It would have to be summer because it's still too early to give the U.S. another winter Olympics. Depending on where the committee chooses, it could be as early as 2016.

The US needs to bid for it. The next round will be Beijing and follow by London.
