Its nothing to do with congestion, just another tax disguised as a green issue. If we weren't subsidising Europe, paying for wars &paying out billions of pounds in benefits it wouldn't be neccessary!

Totally and utterly against it.

Reason 1. The technology to police that would cost millions. The bill for that as well as the the charge would come out of our pocket.

Reason 2. Small businesses would get killed

Reason 3. It's another excuse for the government to check up on your movements.

Reason 4. If they do start charging by the mile then they had better do away with road tax, which is something they have not mentioned doing.

Reason 5. it will NOT cut congestion. People still have to go to work and deliveries still have to be made.

Reason 6. If it is a measure to cut pollution then the least they could do is have a decent public transport system in place. Especially in London.

Charging by mile is unworkable, over expensive and just downright intrusive.

In some ways I do agree that drivers should pay more in proportion to their mileage. However, this greedy government would use this extra tax to fill in the black hole in their budget.
If a "pay as you drive" system was fairly implemented with a discontinuation of the present road tax then I believe it would be acceptable, as long as the payment per mile was fair and the income is used to support alternative transport and the betterment of our road systems.
