The Israelis are no better than their Arab neighbors and vice versa or am I missing something?

Rick N, Thank you for the clarification. I do not agree in totality, because to do so would be to forget the Israeli States, stated aims of Zionism, which works against the best interests of the region.

Whether love can overcome hate is a somewhat idealistic question to ask. It sound nice when intoned by a musical romantic like John Lennon, but we haven’t, nor do I think it is possible, to live out his ideal as envisioned in his song “Imagine”.
The Middle East isn’t a lost cause, and that is for one reason and one reason only. That reason is that there are still secular voices in that part of the world. What impedes progress in the Middle East, is the division of their world into Muslims and Jews. Its this partitioning of their world along religious lines that prevents them from seeing the true underlying issues which are causing so much grief. Most conflicts rise out of poverty, scarcity of resources, lack of opportunity, or political disenfranchisement. However, these things, no matter how deeply rooted, can be resolved with rational discourse and debate. However, when religious distinctions occupy the forefront of a people’s consciousness, it masks these resolvable culprits. Once conflicts take on an otherworldly dimension, which by virtue are not based on anything factual, there will be no means to resolve it.
The greatest way to ameliorate conflicts in the Middle East is by working towards secularizing the place. Once God and the contradictory beliefs about him are rooted out of the public consciousness, then and only then, can people come to a more peaceable solution, for all solutions must take into account facts in this world, not ideas about the next.
How to go about doing this is a complex issue. Yet it is one worth looking into. So the answer isn’t more love, because love isn’t something you can turn on and off on a whim. The real solution involves more rationality in the region.

I don't believe that there can be any fix for the Middle East's problems. The two sides that are fighting each other are too blind and ignorant to see what they're doing to their children and their children's children. The two sides hold equally incompatible beliefs and peace is not a possibility. At the same time, it has been a stalemate since forever. On this earth, hate conquers love.

You haven't missed a thing. But people are under the impression that issues are black and white, you or me. There is no way to 'sit the fence' and see things from a unbiased perspective. If you don't take a side you are against them. I get hit with that all the time. If I say I'm not voting for Hillary I'm a neocon. If I say that we should have an exit strategy out of Iraq I'm a dirty liberal. It's all about taking sides.

The problem is age old, Middle East country's have nothing to so- called lose, all there hope is in the "next" life. Western is opposite in belief we have hope for today and in the "next" life, that makes the difference in how one defines love and hate.

The Middle East is hopeless. There will NEVER be peace there - the hatreds are too inbred and part of the culture. Hopeless.

We are well past love in this case. Humanity is all but lost in the middle east. And in America, too...if you read the posts on this forum. Mankind, in general, has slipped to new lows all around the globe.

There will only be peace in the Middle East when the Muslims are eradicated. They are not interested in peace. They want everyone either 1) praying towards the east, or 2) dead. There is no third option in their minds.
EDIT: There is no problem. Israel was and remains perfectly wiling to work towards peace. Her Muslim neighbors refuse to let that happen. When surrounded by hostile nations whose stated goal is to push the Jews into the sea, what would the prudent course of action be?

They have been hating each other since recorded history! They bring their children up with racial/ethnically hatreds and use their religions to justify their sad beliefs. :-(=

IT is not about hate or love.
It is about the fact that Muslim's Koran tells them to kill every Jew and every non-Muslim.
They HAVE to do it or they burn in hades.
