I am thinking of getting a playstation 3 for my husband, and i am wondering if you will be able to play playstation 2 games on it,someone told me you wouldn't be able too?

Most PS2 games will play on the PS3, but Sony has said that the European PS3 will not play as many PS2 games as the US and Japanese versions. Apparently, the Euro version will not have a PS2 chip. Software will take over some of the functionality that was originally taken care of by dedicated chips, which means far fewer PlayStation 2 games can be played on a European PS3 compared with the Japanese and American PS3 models that play 98 percent of old games.

about 70% of the games made for the PS2 will work flawlessly on a ps3. sony is constantly releasing improvements for the ps3 so eventually that number will reach 99%. if he wants to use his game saves on his memory card you'll need an adapter. other than that if you don't mind spending $500-600, go ahead.

Yes, you can play PS2 games on the PS3, but the graphics are seriously degraded.

Depends on the game. In general YES you can. There are a few though that have had problems though. Mostly the older ones though.
