I think it should be "As well as they can" or "as good as they can". "As best" implies a relative term. Best is not relative, it is absolute.

Incorrect. Someone is confused. It is an understandable mistake.

The problem is complicated by one of the ways we use "as"...

We have a construction "as good as" which is a comparison.

The book is as good as it can be.
The cake was as fluffy as a cloud.
Your guess is as good as mine.

So native speakers are accustomed to this construction, a : As (adjective) as...

But what you have mentioned has a different construction.

Correctly phrased, (depending on its context) it should be:
As best they can.

Such as:
They live their lives as best they can.
They write as best they can.
They fit in as best they can.
They look after themselves as best they can.
They cope as best they can.

THIS construction does not have a second "as"

depends on your sentence if its a sentence like -They will give it the best they can ,then its correct
