I own a Xbox 360 and I enjoy it a lot. I am planning on getting a PS3 some time next year if Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out for it. But Sony really messed themselves up big time by trying to add on all these extras as Blu Ray and Web Browsing, completely overlooking Publishers requests to make their games Sony exclusives. They already lost Assassin Creed and Grand Theft Auto IV to Microsoft for multiplatforming. Now it is being told they lost Devil May Cry 4 to Microsoft as well. So if you want to spend 500-600 dollars on a system with next to nothing in exclusives, so be it. But as of now the numbers for Sony in their PS3 is looking very bad and if they don't do something fast they are doomed and PS3 will ruin Sony for good. For Xbox 360 it has a nice line up of exclusives, a excellent array of games for all different types of genre for people to choose from, and doing quite well despite the two new consoles that have come out. I just hope Sony fixes their crap and get into the game and actually do something instead of trying to make a huge successful media console and just a game console. They already lost big title exclusives, I would hate to see them lose their system.

Gamespot just wrote an interesting article in this area. They actually found that from a graphs perspective the Xbox 360 is better than the PS3 and have comparisons so you can make your own mind up. To be honest I dont think there is much in it.
The reason PS2 was so successful was that it came out 2 years before the Xbox and had the big titles on an exclusive deal (GTA, etc). However from what I have read there will be no exclusives for PS3 that you cant also get on Xbox 360, so they will lose that advantage. Also this time the Xbox 360 has been out 1 1/2 years earlier than PS3. So the next 6 months will be really interesting. Especially once Halo 3 comes out (which will be Xbox 360 only)
Overall If all thinks are even then why pay £500+ for a console with a smaller range of games and no clear benefit. go with Xbox 360 and save yourself £200 to buy loads of games from their extensive range.
I have included the URL from gamespot so you can see the article also:

THE PS3 AND HERE'S WHY: The system supports 1080p the 360 only supports the 740p.....It comes with a high def DVD player inside which looks great on my HDtv the 360 CHARGES 200$ for there high def DVD player....On line gaming is free and by the way to all the people who say that the ps3 has bad online gameing i'm sorry to say that it is just as good as xbox live sorry to dissapoint people , 360 charges 50$ a year which after 4 years you would have paid the same as a PS3's full cost. There are not as many games out for PS3 because it is brand new dumba$$es and to all the ppl who says that it freezes from a person who owns one IT DOES NOT FREEZE EVER!!! So in conclusion after you buy the high def. DVD player and four years of Internet gaming you would have actually paid 200$ more for your 360 than i did for my PS3 the controller for the ps3 is better not becasue of the stupid motion sensor thing but becasue it is much much lighter and doesn't require batteries....baciclly you get what you pay for out of both systems the 600$ price tag is well worth it and the 400$ price tag on the 360 is also worth it

It's a difficult choice but I would have to go with the Xbox 360 and the reason being:
1) It costs about 1/2 as much
2) Better quality games
3) More reliable and consistant online play
Granted, in the future, the PS3 will have more games, but the games they have now would make the Playstation 2 look bad. Laggish, lousy graphics, and they have that blue ray technology which is practically useless. They haven't even implemented it into anything. Yes, I am angry that Microsoft decided just to abandon their Xbox users and only make games for the 360; so all in all I wouldn't get either. I would prefer to get the Nintendo Wii, for the simple fact that they have Super Smash Bros Brawl and the new Zelda, but all in all, I think the next generation consoles were an absolute mistake.

I'ld have to say the 360. Im not trying to be a "fanboy" as quite a while ago I preferred PS2 over xbox. But with PS3... All the say is BluRay this, BluRay that. When not one of their games yet even uses the thing... To say BluRay is the future is a very bold statement and not justified in any way. Plus, Sony has a long history of supporting the wrong technology (The ones that try to revolutionize, but fail horribly).
Then theres the fact, that its freaking Microsoft. They have waaay deeper pockets then Sony so they have the ability to buy into just about any gaming license. Exclusives are hard to keep against such a rich company. Then they have their online service. Online isn't for everyone, but for those who do enjoy it theres no competition against Xbox Live.
Even the smaller details. Like Achievements. Being able to have some sort of recognition for your hard earned work. This is a major drive for some (me included) and can really help you get the most out of your money for each game.
So, yeah. Overall I say 360 because all the PS3 is, is a cheap BluRay player. Barely a console at all.

I personally think the 360 is the better choice. It is lower in price, currently has more games available and it is at least equal in graphics. All in all the only thing you get for your extra $300 from the PS3 is a blue ray player and that technology still hasn't been determined to be the winner in the next gen of movie players. Actually if you have the $600 to spend I recommend getting a 360 and a Wii like I did :o)

definitely xbox 360. the blu-ray player on the PS3 is a bit pointless because everyone still uses normal DVD's, i also think that the online gameplay of xbox 360 is far better than PS3's
