Yes, fish fillets are an excellent food item for piranha. You might check with your local grocery or fish market and see if you can buy fillets that are past the safe sale date. Be sure to explain why you want them and they will probbaly sell you some very cheap. Shrimp can also be had this way as well as any other seafood. Freeze it and feed as needed.

Earthworm, beefheart, basicaly any fairly lean meat makes a good food for them.

Get some beef heart for it (ask your local butcher, should be cheap)

High in protein low in fat, piranhas need a high protein diet. You can cut it into chucks the right size and freeze it. Just be sure to thaw it to room temp before you give it to the fish (so it isn't eating ice).

first off, don't feed feeder goldfish, they're too fatty and not much in the way of nutrients are provided either.

they do like live fish, but any live fish would need to be quarantined for at least 2 weeks prior to feeding, you don't want to give your piranha any nasty diseases, and it may be difficult to switch them from live to anything else.

frozen fish however may be more economical in the long run! they should take frozen silversides readily. supplement with squid, earthworms (make sure they've not come into contact with pesticides etc), bloodworms, shrimp, they may also take carnivourus fish pellets/sticks.

it's good to keep a fishes, any fishes, diet varied.
