Cut your nails very short, wear gloves, or occupy your hands by practicing a musical instrument or with a handheld game -- a HOBBY! That's the word I was thinking of.

Have you ever thought of hypnosis? It's drug free but pretty expensive, about $400.00 dollars. There is another called acupuncture, where you can control nerve endings with painless needles.

I was tempted to do hypnosis for weight loss some years back, but did it on my own. Lost 76 lbs. And stayed that way since 2002. But enough of myself, we're talking about you.

Or...

You can put gloves on and reward yourself, like everybody above me advises. I am just offering a suggestion.

Since bad habits or brain activity varies with people, my best advise is to talk with somebody who understands these types of conditions. Please let these professionals know you do not want to take drugs. Doctors cannot force drug therapy on you, they can only advise on treatment.

If you about had it with the above advise and abhor seeing a professional, my last resort advice is to read up on "obsessive compulsive disorders" at your local library or bookstore. Look it up on the net or google and read up on OCD or Bipolar disorders. It will save you a lot of wasted expenses and you will be educated more.

I have the same problem specially when there's allot of things on my mind, so what I do is put a "band-aid" on the finger that I usually pick the most and try to forget about it for awhile, its more of a mind game with me with the "band-aid" on my finger.
