Best topics for any speeches are those you already have some knowledge in. The more foreign or difficult the more chances for screwing up.

In college I had someone give a demo on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!! It wasn't the topic the teacher was concerned about but the presentation.

So you need to cover all the basics required for your speech and then present them in a fun and entertaining way. Add some humor, visual's and be bold so that you draw them in.

Pick a a skill you have, something of interest or personal experience.

I did mine on sumo wrestling and had a couple of friends help with the demo. However, you can do anything from flower arranging (go to marthastewart.com), how to make your own soap (your local craft shop can help with this), or even folding cloth napkins (back to martha). If you can involve your audience, make eye contact with people in the front, middle and back of the room. Move around, don't stand in one place. This keep people focused on you and they tend to not lose concentration. Above all practice your material so that you don't stumble. Good luck.

I did mine on how to fold an origami crane--passed out squares of paper to the rest of the class. It was a real hit!
