I am measuring the height of my radishes for a science fair project.

I have 5 varibles. 3 cups for each varible
but I graphed each one that sprouted. So I have a total of 30 graph points. It looks really busy.

How do I 'group' the series so that I only have 5 colors?

Take the average of each of the 3 cups.
1. Put your color label 1 into cell A1
2. Put your measurements for variable 1 into cells A2, A3 and A4
3. Into cell A4 type "=AVERAGE(A2:A4)" (don't type the ")
4. Repeat 1-3 for the other 4 colors in Columns B, C, D and E
5. Make a new graph with the lables in cells A1:E1 and the values in cells A4:E4
That should do it!
Good luck.

Arrange the data like a matrix given below, and then draw a chart (a simple scatter chart will help)

Variables | Cup A | Cup B | Cup C
1 | x | x | x
2 | x | x | x
3 | x | x | x
4 | x | x | x
5 | x | x | x

x are variables, you need to fill in numbers.

This method will help in grouping colors automatically.

Use a different color for each variable and a different shape of graph point for each set of 3 cups.

Will that work for ya?

Go with Tiger's answer.
Just select the data and create a new chart. The different columns should automatically generate different shaped and coloured points
