i recently fell outside of work (about two weeks ago)... my face slammed onto the ground. I ended up having to wear my retainer again after a long period of time going without. (i'm 20). everything on my face hit (forehead, nose, lip, teeth, chin)... I recently started feeling jaw pain (on the left side only.. just slight soreness)... it will go away for a few days and then come back. could this be associated with the above? it seems like is should have gone away by now. only hurts when i open... kind of feels like swelling (can feel it kind of in my ear as well).

I'm sorry about your fall, it sounds like a bad one!

First off, did you visit a doctor or Emergency Room? If not, you probably should make an appointment as soon as possible to get your head/jaw checked out. Sounds like you've injured your jaw to the point that it might be out of place (that happened to me once). This can be extremely painful and if you don't have it treated properly and promptly, it could mean serious problems in the future.

Did you report the incident at work? If not, do so immediately.

Good luck!
:D

I would advise that you have your tempero-mandibular joint looked at... It is a ball-and-socket style joint, and often is associated with problems with clicking, stiffness, soreness, tenderness, etc. following jaw injuries / even for no reason.

There are exercises which can help to relieve TMJ issues. I used to do them as MY OWN TMJ was out for years as a kid (every time I yawned or sang a song lol)... I have a special mouthpiece I wear at night to keep it aligned, and do special exercises for it.

Take Non-steroidal anti inflammatories, see a GP, and good luck.

I think you need to see a Doctor in this case or have an X-ray done. This makes me hurt just to read it. You may have TMJ. Anyway, I've always been told to apply cool compress for any swelling for 15 minutes. Wait. Then apply warm, moist heat to area to relax muscles and for circulation.

Sounds like a TMJ injury.( Temperomandibular joint) A dentist can make a custom fit mouthpeice to treat that.

You should have it looked at. It's probably just an effect of your accident but it is possible something is misaligned
