in the original comic Silver Surfer is the slave to Galactus... remember he is holding SS planet hostage... SS is Galactus' scout to find other planets for him to "eat"... he does it to pay off the "debt" he owes galactus...

The Silver Surfer is Galactus' herald. He goes to a planet to prepare it for Galactus to consume it. So yes he pretty much is Galactus' lackey. At some point in the story he will grow to appreciate earth, and that is when he helps the Fantastic 4 to get Galactus to leave earth alone.

I think he is, yes, but the latest thing I heard is that the Galactus he's a herald for is more akin to the 'Ultimate Gah-lak-tus' from the Ultimate Marvel univers, as opposed to the huge purple dude who Jack Kirby created. This is, in my opinion, not a good thing (though I do love me some Ultimate Marvel).

that's what I was thinking.. from the preview I saw, the Silver Surfer is going around destroying planets.. he must be a lot weaker than the SS from the comic or the Fantastic 4 would get their butts kicked hard..
