To me, happiness is loving yourself. Being ok with who and where you are. Being content with what you have. Focusing on the positive & beautiful aspects of life rather than the negative.
Yeah, it's taken me more than three decades but I'm finally learning the secret to happiness. It's a choice. Some days it's easier than others (some days I still enjoy wallowing in self-pity & having a good cry when things go wrong) but overall I'm learning to like myself & I'm feeling stronger & happier than I ever dreamed I could be. As a result, many of the things I wanted are coming to me: owning a beautiful home, showing and selling my artwork, working on a musical career, meeting the man of my dreams. I used to think that if I had these things, then I'd be happy. I finally realized it's the reverse: If I'm happy with myself & feel like I don't need anything, then I start to attract wonderful things to me. Happiness radiates a positive energy & draws positive things to you.

The small things tend to bring the greatest happiness in life. It may sound trite, but watching a sunrise, a sunset, the moon and stars on a clear, crisp night in the winter when you can see your breath all bring an aspect of being connected to the whole universe. With that connection one can feel centered, whole and happy. We all have to take the time to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. Something as simple as a blooming hibiscus in winter makes us wonder why does this occur. Does the flower bloom because it is joyful or happy, or just because it can. Accept all the universe has to offer with an open heart and ask for what is needed in your life, happiness will follow when you appreciate the small things you already have.

For me, happiness is in reading. I'm an avid reader who always manages to feel like I'm a part of each story I read. When the story ends, I feel like a part of me kind of went with it. I cherish my books. It may sound stupid but when life hasn't got much going for it at the moment, any human being will do what he or she can to make it all worth while.

Being contented with what I've got and knowing that God has a plan for my life. If you're not contented then I cannot picute you being happy. True happiness comes from appreciating what you've got.
