My mom and I like to watch re-runs of "Friends," but I can't help asking, when I see the shows over and over, who would really be friends with these people? Ross is whiner;Chandler is a wimp; Joey is a dope; Monica is childish and bossy; Rachel is a narcissist and a spoiled brat; Phoebe is an irresponsible flake. Why would any one want to be friends with these six "walking irritants?" I realize the characters are only meant to be broad caricatures, probably of people the writers knew, but even as comedy figures, they're annoying! Who agrees with me?

I would be friends with all six of them because along with those qualities:
Ross is very smart, and can help me study for my exams
Chandler is very sweet, and can make me laugh when I'm in a bad mood
Joey loves food, so he can take me out for nice dinners
Monica is a chef so she can MAKE good dinners (and help me keep my house clean)
Phoebe is goofy and can give me massages
and Rachel can be my shopping buddy and get me discounts at Ralph Lauren

To be honest some of my real life friends are like this and I put up with them!
I think Ross would probably be easiest for me as I tend to like academic boring stuff and I find him amusing, plus he is a pushover and I could boss him around.
Monica: No way, but funny enough I live with my BF who I sometimes call "Monica" because of his annoying habits that remind me of Monica. Ack. Lucky me.
Phoebe: No. Totally annoying but also reminds me of my annoying /flaky, but sweet mother. No, No and No.
Joey: Maybe a work-buddy, just for joking with.....
Rachel. Probably not.
So, for me Ross and Chandler. Thats it.

I understand your point - after countless re-runs a lot of the time things annoy me rather than make me laugh. But I find Chandler and Pheobe funny (I know that goes against what I just said) and I would be friends with them. And maybe Rachel. Monica would annoy me too much, we would fall out over not eating cookies at the sink...

the only one i would be able to hang with is chandler. I would have already beat the crap out of ross. and rachel and monica are ok but phoebe is dumb and i have never thought she was that attractive.

Well I am not perfect either, so I think I would be friends with them. Except for Phoebe, I never really understood her. I would probably be most closest to Monica

i love chandler and phoebe their so funny ross does my head in a bit and im not rachels biggest fan but i love the show always watch it

Sure, I'd be friends with them. You pointed out some of their flaws but you neglected to point out their good features. Just like "real" people, you've got to take the good with the bad.
