Check the following in the order specified. Check the obvious stuff first to ensure it is not a basic setup error.

1) Make sure the speaker is plugged in to the correct jack, and if externally powered, has the power turned on. The speaker jack and port are usually color coded.
2) Go to the control panel and open up the volume control. Ensure the volume settings are set high, and ALL the mute checkboxes are unticked
3) Check the driver installation. do this by right clicking on the 'my computer' icon and select 'manage'. Select the 'Device manager' and select the 'sound , video & game controllers' branch. Make sure there are no errors, i.e exclamation marks. If there are, reinstall the sound driver from the CDs that came with the PC. Alternatively, download from here (I think this is the right one).

In any case, if nothing else worked, I would reinstall the sound driver.

Good luck

first thing to do is double click on the icon by the clock that looks like a speaker is there a tick in the box that says mute if so take it out second is the slider at the bottom if so move it up to the top.
If all's well there the open the control panel click the system icon click the Hardware tab then click the "Device manager" button let it load takes a few seconds look for the section where it says "sound video and game controllers" if there's a problem there'll be a yellow triangle with a ! sign on it if there is a problem click on the plus "+" sign to see what the problem is if it's the sound card did you get a drivers disk with you computer if so insert if an reinstall the sound driver alternatively get you're computer manual out find out the make and model of your sound card do a google search for the manufacturer and look for there support section and download a new driver

1. Check to see if you accidentally deleted the drivers. Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager take a look to see if you have any yellow exclamation points under "Sounds, Video and game controllers", if you do re-install the drivers.

2. Make sure your speakers are correctly connected.

3. Also double click the sound icon in the system tray to see if you might of muted it accidentally.

4. Did you install any new hardware or software? If so, that might of caused a conflict.

Good Luck with your troubleshooting.

Check the simple things first, check you haven’t muted the sound, you can check this either by clicking the speaker icon in the right bottom corner of your screen, right click on the on it and check you haven’t muted your sound, or go to control panel and click on the speaker icon there and check again.
Another option, (especially if you don’t know what your sound car is called) is to click on START, then RUN, then type this word in MSCONFIG and a screen will appear, click on the SOUND tab, this will give you the name of your sound device and you will also be able to test your sound.
If this fails then you might have deleted your sound driver.
Now your armed with the name of your sound device you can then go to the manufactures web site and download a new driver. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Make sure the volume is not muted. Ensure your speakers are working. If thats all fine then try this.

Click on Start>Run.

Type in "services.msc" without the quotes and press Enter.

When the window with a list of services opens up, scroll down and select "Windows Audio". Enable it if its disabled, start it if its stopped, restart it if its running.

You could re-install Windows and see if that helps.

Otherwise try update the sound driver.

It could possibly just be on mute or plugged into the wrong socket.
