The zodiac is based on the position of the earth in relation to the sun and the constellations, called spherical celestial coordinate system.

As our calendar system does not attune to this system but a standardization that makes it easier to figure out (go linear! woo!) - think leap year, the celestial coordinate system will be off by a day for certain times of the year for half the period of a leap year cycle. Therefore the Capricorn/Aquarius split will occur the 20th the first 2 years after a leap year, and the 21st the last 2 before the extra day in Feb. Still with me?

So technically you are both. You'll find you perhaps do have qualities from both signs. (Bonus - makes u a more complete person than those of us stuck in one sign) The system has been standardized in most cases to simplify matters from all this jargon and the Capricorn ends on the 20th and Aquarius starts on the 21st. You'll find this true of most papers/magazines.

Some astrologers will still choose to stick with the celestial coordinate system, and will adjust the dates pertaining to when it applies before the simplification.

If you want to go into more detail, read on. There are actually 3 systems in place, the tropical, sidereal, and the standard by the International Astronomical Union - tropical is what you find in papers. HE HE!

Hope this helps.

YOu are an Aquarius. My dad's birthday is January 19th and I'd say he's a lot more like an Aquarius than a Capricorn.

I really think that people born on the last day (or two) of a sign are more like the next sign. The zodiac signs move forward with the calender and planets.. On January 20th, Capricorn influence had finished and Aquarius has begun.

Check out the descriptions for both Aquarius and Capricorns. I think you'll be more like an Aquarius

Aquarius: the water bearer
January 20th-February 18th

The cusps: persons born within three days of the beginning or the end of a sign will have some of the instincts and tendencies of the other sign. Such persons should read both charts in order to get a complete understanding of their dual characteristics. January 20, 21, 22, aquarius with capricorn characteristics. February 16, 17, 18, aquarius with pisces characteristics.

I was born January 20th...trust me, your an aquarius, do your chart by visiting astrolab.com or alabe.com, enter you name, dob and time of birth, if you don't know the time of birth, enter 12:00pm and it will give you your chart.

I know I'm not a Capricorn, I have no traits to indicate and matter of fact I don't care to much for Cappies...were on the cusp of capricorn and now were in the age of Aquarius.

good luck!
