At the moment it shares the headquarters of the EU with Brussels and Strasbourg.
It is the world's only Grand Duchy.
It has a rich history, stunning landscapes and medieval castles, and it produces fine light wines and fruit liquors. It has been the home of Radio Luxembourg for decades and has a brilliant Philharmonic Orchestra. Its economy is prosperous and the goods sold there are amongst the best. Petrol and chocolate there are cheaper than in surrounding EU countries and people go there specially to shop and fill up their fuel tank.

PS. Regarding niamh's answer above. It is an important banking and insurance centre but it is NOT the "new Switzerland" and you cannot have secret money hidden there nor is it a tax heaven. The EU banking rules are very strictly applied and banks there are stringently monitored as in the rest of the European Community, whilst Switzerland does not belong to the EU and has its own laws with regard to banking.

Perhaps I could recap some of the correct aspects of the previous answers: yes Luxembourg is small, and is the only Grand Duchy in the world (Monaco being a principality).
Yes Luxembourg is known for Radio Luxembourg a radio station which discovered the benefits of commercial spots some 50 years ago long before others. No, Luxembourg is not a tax haven but until some years ago it did not apply the witholding tax on interests of bonds and commercial paper, as was done in Belgium. Therefore on the 21st of July (Belgium national day) the Luxemburg banks specially opened and even put up some extra counters to serve the exodus of Belgians coming to cash their interest coupons.
And yes it is the seat of the High Court of the EU.
Luxembourg is further known for its liquor (kirsh), its special kind of German (Letzeburgs) and its steelindustry.
