Some get posted from time to time on the front page of mathworld.wolfram.com. There are also various math journals out there where people publish their work all the time.

For what purposes?

If you want to report on them -- well, the Poincare' Conjecture was solved recently.

If you're looking for a field of research, try graph theory, statistics/machine learning, and/or anything that applies to biology.
