Congratulations on your first period! It is normal for your first period to be a bit unusual. I personally change pads about that amount when I'm not flowing heavily. Every woman's period is different. The best thing for you is to educate yourself. Below is a site that I think explains things very well. Ask your Mother or other trusted women around you what they do. It is a great time of bonding, where all women can come together and share. It doesn't have to be a negative thing.

The question I would have is how often (in this case how many hours) you are changing the pads. I went thru about 5 pad changes a day too spaced out at about every 2 or 3 hours.

I agree with the other poster that said to talk to your mom about this as well to find out more about what her periods are like. Also monitor things and check with the dr to be on the safe side.

There is nothing wrong with that. You are supposed to change it at least every 3 or 4 hours...Its okay to change it sooner. Change it as much as you think you need to. At first, you might whant to change it constantly because it makes you feel cleaner and safer. Nothing to worry about honey.

Sounds like you are having heavy periods. Poor thing! I would talk to your mum and ask her what her periods are like, and if this continues I would consult a doctor for medical advice. You may need to go on the pill to assist decreasing the flow. I hope you are coping all right with your first period. Congratulations!!
