He was probably bi sexual.

If he took boys on to his boat he is not indicative of homosexuality(gay) he would be properly described as a paedophile or a paederast. Most gay men are not paedophiles, in fact most paedophiles are in long term stable relationships with women.

There is plenty of evidence that he had affairs with both women and men, particularly in the Navy, but there is no 'smoking gun' so to speak.

His wife was as famous for her affairs, and it is generally accepted that she had an affair with Nehru whilst Mountbatten was negotiating Indian independence with him as the last Viceroy of India

honestly, I've never heard that mention, either during or after his demise. Those kind of rumors used to surface after a person was no longer around to say yea or nay, but these days there are a mass of websites that will out you whether you are or not. I noticed one day that even Wiki has a list, and you wouldn't believe the people that are on it. For a relatively reliable website, I was surprized that they allowed people to add names willy-nilly like that.

He was married and there are some rumours that he was bisexual.
some of these rumours were published in 'Private Eye' magazine

However, he died in 1979, and lived in a different age. you cant assume it was a sexual act to invite boys onto his boat. you cant judge his actions on todays standards.
