Heavy periods are subjective. If you go through more than one pad an hour it is an urgent medical problem and you need to go to the emergency room. If you aren't bleeding quite that heavily you can still have some kind of a problem and should probably see a gynecologist if you are concerned.

If you need to use both a heavy-duty towel and a heavy-duty tampon a tthe same time, but, like everything it varies from woman to woman! What you consider light, your friend may consider heavy!

When you bleed alot more than normal also the pain is really bad. every third period i have a heavy one.

to me a heavy period is when you have to change your pad every hour.

also if you pass lots of cloths.
