The program Fireworks from Macromedia allows you to create images with a transparent background. You can also create animated gifs with a transparent background.

You need to save the image as gif.

Hello, if you have adobe photoshop, open a new file you can choose weather it has transparent background , background colour or white .Be sure that the dpi is the same size as your image [it does seem that if you flatten the image it goes white], then open your image and drag it onto the new box. I'm not expert but this is what I'd try.

Photoshop is the most common program for this.
Just set the background to be transparent. When saving the file, save it as "GIF" format (the only format that accepts transparent background).

It depends which image editing software you're using. Your image will have to be a .gif, as jpgs can't support transparency.

As stated it needs to be in gif format e.g. have the extension .gif

gimp is free but you will have to download and install a gif addon to be able to save it as the gif format is copyrighted so they can't ship it with the free installation of gimp.

You can make it a watermark, look up watermark in microsoft word.
