Which was worse? the British empire or the Nazi's?

Who do you think were worse, they've both commited genocides across the world but the British empire more so since they killed way more people and commited way more genocides, most of the worlds problems these days are down to Britain.

The Nazis.
We didn't exterminate the people of the colonies we invaded, instead we civilised them. Without us countries like India would never be the democracies they are today. There would be no USA either.
Britain has never commited genocide. Sure we whipped the natives when they attacked us (Rorkes Drift, Indian Mutiny) but we didn't seek to destroy the people themselves.
If any colonial power was comparable to the Nazis I would have to say it was the Belgians. They committed terrible human rights abuses in the Congo, killing, mutilating and enslaving the natives.

I don't think anyone remotely sensible would rank history as a best-vs-worst leaderboard. The issues involved are far too complex to reduce to that.

It's also pretty hard to argue that most of the world's problems are down to Britain. I'm not defending the British Empire at all, but I don't think you can paint any one nation as good or evil. Most of the world's problems are down to greed and hatred, and both the British Empire and Nazi Germany had more of a chance to exercise those things than many states. Most other imperial powers you can name have sponsored or caused genocide, too.

If I had to choose, mind you, I'd certainly rather have lived under the British Empire than under the Nazis, and I don't think you'd find too many people who would choose the Nazis.

I'm not aware of alot of genocides commited by the Britsh empire. Whatever genocides they did commit, none was as systematic as that in the Nazi era.

I think you can argue they did do some genocide like activity on the North American natives but nowhere near as systematic as what nazi's did. Not sure all that activity was British or that it was condoned from London. The Spanish seemed more ruthless.

Nazi one was INTENSIONAL and was directed from the top down.

Now it may be possible the British Empire killed more people?

That's another question. It lasted 300 years.

I think fir the most part biritsh was not ruthless but certainly there were cases wen they were.

I do not remember the British Empire every commiting to a policy of genocide. So other than these rantings can you reference a single instant of genocide comited by the British Empire?

The British only tried to civilize the world.. terrible as tehir legasy may be their colonies with few exceptions are far worse off now that they are independent than when they were colonies

They both were worse, but the British was worse off due to that the Nazi only had a small part in killing humanity like Poland,Russia, France, and Spain, as to the British, they conquered half of the world and they actually did more killing after the fall of the Nazi's in Egypt, Libya and Palestine, where they gave Palestine to the Israels on a Golden Plate, and now 2007 the Jews are doing it again as their fathers did ( The British ).

your missing out the good things done by the british empire, suchas build most of the worlds railways, install banking sytems and improve infrastructure the world over and as a percentage of the population controlled by the British empire only a small percentage were killed compared to the nazis

The British empire may have killed more people, but it's not the amount that matters it's the reason. the Nazi's killed people just because of their race, and religion.
