All of a sudden I am seeing a new thing in my son. The moment I open his diaper he reaches for his penis and testecles. He squeeses them. I find this very painful while he does not feel anything. He is exploring himself but will he hurt himself. He also hits himself there at times when he is playing and happy. Please advise.

Babies respond to pain so if he hurts himself you would know it. Don't worry it is a natural instinct for them to stop squeezing when it hurts.It probably looks more painful then what it actually is.

He's fine. He's just figuring out his body. Trust me, it will become more frequent in the coming months, but if you don't make a big deal about it, he won't do it to get a rise out of you. Oh, geez, no pun intended there. Anyway, you'll be happy when he starts to grab his penis when he's nearly two because it's a good indicator that he's telling you he's either going to pee or peeing right then. Good luck!

My son started doing that around 6 months too. He's 11 months and still does it and he thinks its funny when I tell him to stop. He discovered something new that he has to explore and It doesn't hurt him.

He's just made a new discovery and, painful as it looks, this is totally normal behavior. Just wait till you open the diaper and he has a full blown erection...also normal.

it is normaland if it hurt he wouldnt do it. just wait until he gets a bit older and can take his diaper off, then you'll have a naked boy doing that in front of company. lol my son does or rather did do this alot until we started putting diapers on backwards. hope he dosent catch on...

He probably won't hurt himself and he probably is just 'discovering' his body. This is normal behavior and the obsession never ends.
