for a long time , the Bush administration has branded Iran -Iraq- north Korea as axis of evils , and has vowed to defeat them in an no-nonsense uncomprising manner , how come now the secretary of state Rice is going to sit down with Iran and Syria in this so called regional meeting held by Iraqi regime after president Bush has told Iran and Syria to back off from Iraq and constantly accusing Iran of supplying bombs and weapons to insurgents , do you not think this has made Bush looked very very stupid ?

Yes it does, he should have done this a very long time ago. Instead of name calling and using bullying tactics, he should have thought long and hard about the interdependence of the world's countries and who the US allies really are and what they stand for.

No...there is a more subtle reason for "sitting down" with Iran. The Iranian people have always liked America. It is their repressive fundamentalist government that hates us....Big Difference!

The US is walking a fine line in keeping pressure on the government without alienating the people. If the people start feeling like we have turned against them too, they may have no option (in their minds), but to support whatever whack-o actions are taken by their government.

The best case scenario would be for the Iranian people to rise up against their government IF they think the US will help them in return.

Gee - I guess that we look real stupid after managing to prevent any successful terrorist attack against us since 9/11.

And - BTW - why should we care what they think? They have never done anything for us and only pretend to like us when they want something.

IMO - the next time they come to us wanting something - we should be asking them: "What have you done for us lately?"

I suppose it's always a risk of people who hold on to "hardline" policies - sooner or later when those policies fail and an alternative needs to be found, it's always more embarassing to make that U-turn.

It's stupid, in a world that's interconnected for them to brand certain countries evil, when somewhere along the line they're going to have to deal with them in a non-military context.

The guy can't even speak..He stumbles over every other word he tries to say.. Everyone has known he is stupid since the debates in 2000... The only reason he was elected is because the stupid people in the south voted for him...

Kathy has it right. Ahmadininijininnydad is spearheading all this nonsense, and has drawn ire from the Ayatollah, as well as his people.

Yes...the U.S. will eat crow. Might doesn't make right and physical force doesn't equal intellegence.
