He has been so injury prone since 2004. When he comes back he hardly contributes, it seems he is only in their for his captaincy, which in my opinion is not worth a place in a team who are aiming to win it for the first time since it was established.

I think the captaincy is one of the major reasons, if not THE major reason, but I think there is an aspect of his batting they are selecting him for. I belive they will look towards him to be the man to bat thru the innings to hold up one end. EdJoyce did that well when Vaughan was injured, but with Vaughan back, Joyce can play the attacking game that he displayed very well at times in Australia.

As a leader he is seen as talismanic, so he will be chosen primarily for that, to relieve Flintoff of some pressure to be the talismanic performer he is.

I am sure everyone will see him as the man who captained England to the 2005 Ashes, which testified how good a captain he is.
